Dega Addition 2011-2012

So far it is a great year for the Dega Addition.  After following a group winning 2nd place at championships, this years group is ambitious and striving to do their best.  The rehearsals we have had have been great and each one is a little better than the rest.  I look forward to the year ahead and hope that each girl has a wonderful time.

HAPPY SPRING BREAK!

Hi. Happy Spring BREAK!

I just wanted to remind you to look at the Calendar on Dega Band . It has been updated with MANY rehearsals for the next two weeks.

Look at it close and often. The times are slightly sporadic. I tried to move them around and fit in groups where we could to get the most out of what we need.

I am looking forward to the mad dash to the finish in Nashville. REST UP!

Mission Field Day: Completed!

Grace, Amber, Andrea, Anna, and Alex...

Congratulations on your first show of the season! It was a great run, and each of you should be proud of yourselves and each other. (I know I am!) You all really came alive in front of that crowd!

Also, I want yall to take a minute and realize that you learned a great deal of your work over the past 2 days! TWO DAYS! That's fantastic. If you can keep up the same work ethic that you showed us on Thursday and Friday, like I know you can, you will go very far. And I for one can't wait to see you every step of the way.

Now, enjoy your long weekend (as if you weren't rested enough from the snow days! :P)! Experiment with some tosses, flag work, or dance, or sleep. Haha.

I love each and everyone of you, and you all make me so very proud!

Almost time

Hi Ladies!

Almost time for the 2011 season to officially kick off.  I was reminded today of what a great year last year was and wanted to kick off this season officially with a blast from last year.  I just watched this again and I thought how fitting that I post it for the season that is about to begin.  Everyone struggles from time to time.... on the floor.... off the floor... in school.... in friendships... in guard.... in life... but in the end what we think might literally kill us... often times are the things that we laugh at the most.... much later that is.  So enjoy the struggles of last years Dega Darlins for a minute and remember what a trip it was for them from field day to championships.  If you find your heart racing and that you are holding your breath.... you can stop.... they win. ....lol.  (When I watched it, I did that for some reason.... thought I would spare you the suspense.)

see you guys tomorrow at ELLIS!  (meet in the bandroom... or as I have recently named it... the winter guard storage room.)

1.13.2011 practice!

Hey girls!

I hope you all have been enjoying your snow days! (and piecing together and practicing your new show material! ha!)

On Thursday at your practice you need to come with your hair in a low ponytail. Pin back, hairspray, and gel down everything as necessary, no fly aways! (I might attack you with hairspray, and you might end up with a hair helmet, haha.) Oh and come with no eye makeup on (or just mascara is fine) we are going to do a test run of that too.
Also, we need you to all wear the same color. I'm going to assume that your band shirts would be good since you all have one, and probably red shorts. HOWEVER, if you all want to talk about it and make sure you have the exact same color of shirt let me know and you should be able to wear that.

And on a side note, come with great attitudes and ready to perform! Last week was really productive, I would love to keep up that pace.

I am super excited to see what this season brings you!
I love you girls!

SNOW!

Hi Ladies!

I mentioned that we need to start using the blog and what better time than right NOW!

I hope you guys are enjoying the few snow days that you have had.  With Field day coming up, look at www.degaband.com for calendar updates.  Most of the changes did not involve your group, however its good to be informed.

See you soon!

This WEEK!!!!

The time is quickly approaching.... Hard to believe the 2nd season for Dega Darlins Addition is wrapping up.  I am very excited about the trip coming up and I am even more excited about the dedication, hard work and preparation that I have seen from such an wonderful group of talented and spirited young ladies.  :)  The things you have changed and improved upon this week are really wonderful.  I am so proud of you to be able to change so quickly and efficiently, what a great season of growth for this group.

A few last minute details to help us as we get closer to departure.

  • The Itinerary online is correct.  We do have the performance times that are within that block, but overall everything stays pretty much the same.  When you receive the official itinerary on Friday morning you will the exact time that we discussed posted.  Also, instead of going downtown for dinner, we will go for lunch, which will give us more time. In the meantime if you have questions ASK!
  • We discussed the possibility of going to Wild Horse as a group.  As of right now, enough people have not turned in their information.  If they do by this afternoon then we will go, if not then we will not.  I will let you know when I am positive.
  • TRAVEL FORMS ARE PAST DUE!!!!!!
  • INTERSTATE:  There is a large delay on I-65 North around the Cullman exit.  It has been advised that we find an alternate route due to the fact the delay has taken up to 2 hours, which we do not have in our schedule.  It is only 20 more minutes according to google maps to go to Gadsden, get on I-59 and go North to Chattanooga then over to Nashville.  The total trip being 4 hours and 23 minutes as opposed to 4 hours. The downfall is that they are doing construction here as well and it is a one lane road... however, the traffic moves at a consistent pace here and will not slow us too much.
  • Friday Lunch.... We will still stop at Steak 'n shake on the way up.  We will just stop at a different location.  It is actually still about 30 minutes outside of Nashville like before...I will have a map for the location... it is right on the interstate.  (Symrna, TN)
I believe that is all for now.  See you this afternoon, for another STELLAR rehearsal.

updates!

Please check the calendar on Dega Band for rehearsal updates for this coming week; CHAMPIONSHIP week!  YAY!  It is different than before.

I am sad that the break is over, but I really look forward to the next week.  Brian has arranged so that he can be at practice on Monday and Tuesday for both the Dega Darlins and the Dega Addition.  There a few last minute changes that we want to make before championships.  A few specifics from some judges and such.  It is going to be tiring for everyone, but hopefully the end result will be VERY rewarding.  Be sure to express you thanks to Brian... he will be driving from Atlanta BOTH Days and then to Nashville on Friday!

I wanted to let you know how complimentary the judges were of you at the Killen Competition.  You are doing some GREAT things out there each time you perform.  I look forward to your performance at Nashville and hope that it is the best one yet! Get some rest, take your vitamins and lets have an outstanding week of rehearsals, fellowship and performances as we head to Nashville on Friday!

Don't forget that we will be rehearsing at ZEJH during 5th period every day this week.  Make needed arrangements.  Also, I received an email from the SCGC contest director that official performance times will be issued by 5pm on Monday. I will get the updated Itinerary to you as soon as I have it.  If I get it Monday prior to rehearsal, you will get it Monday, if not, you will receive it Tuesday at Practice.

Flip Flop Friday.....

Food, Fun, Friends and Flip Flops!!!

What a great way to finish such a busy week and to relax before an even busier one.  I hope that each of you had a stress free and good time relaxing and hanging out with one another while you decorated your flip flops!  I know I did.  I am very thankful that we have THREE GREAT groups of young ladies that are so willing to help each other and to make our guards outstanding both on the floor and off.

I am very proud of each of you and what you have accomplished so far this season.  I look forward to the Hoover Competition and I know you do as well.  Get lots of rest this weekend.  With MPA and a Winter Guard Competition it is going to be VERY BUSY!  but also very rewarding!  :)
